- Has accompanied school system leaders to Washington, D.C. to speak to the impact of the Affordable Care Act on schools and other public sector entities
- Member of the Large Group Advisory Board, ConnectiCare
- Joe is an active member of his community participating in the Parent Association Xavier High School, volunteering at the East Haddam Youth and Family Services and serving as Chairman of the East Haddam BOE Capital Improvement Committee
